(#1305) The Monarch

The Monarch exemplifies the classic 13th‑century Oakeshott Type X medieval sword. The Type X was widely used from the Viking Age through much of the Middle Ages and is easily recognized by its broad blade and full‑length fuller. This version features a distinctive Brazil‑nut pommel, a style common in the mid‑1200s and often seen on transitional Type X to Type XI blades.

The Monarch has the long, tapered blade typical of cut‑and‑thrust swords developed to counter the increasing improvements in medieval armor protection. Its curved guard is consistent with numerous surviving 13th‑century Brazil‑nut swords found in museums and private collections. The Monarch is a historically accurate, classic medieval design that stands out as a unique centerpiece in any sword collection.
