this 23-inch Viking short sword is a faithful homage to early medieval European sidearms. Drawing direct aesthetic and structural inspiration from historical museum artifacts and private collection pieces, this weapon exemplifies the form, balance, and craftsmanship characteristic of 9th- to 11th-century Insular and Scandinavian blade production.

Featuring a concise 23-inch profile, this model reflects the transitional typology between the late Migration Period single-edged langseax and the double-edged Peterson Type X/H Viking swords. Its profile taper delivers rapid point control while retaining sufficient mass toward the upper third for decisive cutting capability. 

The pommel and crossguard are cast in solid bronze, featuring intricate relief knotwork inspired by the Urnes and Ringerike artistic styles. This one of a kind Darksword Armory "Great Swords dominated European battlefields during the late 13th and 14th centuries. Engineered to answer the transition from chainmail to early plate armor, this piece perfectly captures the balance of brutal cutting power and sophisticated blade geometry prized by medieval knights.

From an academic perspective, this sword aligns closely with the Oakeshott Type XIIIa—the quintessential "Great Sword of Germany" (Grans Espees de d'Allemis). Characterized by its broad, imposing presence and nearly parallel edges that taper gracefully into a functional point, this typology was favored for its devastating delivery of residual force in a sweeping cleave.

The Kriegsmesser was engineered primarily as a devastating cutting weapon, designed to combat unarmored infantry, pikemen, and skirmishers on the Renaissance battlefield. To maintain exceptional rigidity along its massive length, the blade features a thick, robust spine. A wide, shallow fuller runs along the upper half of the blade to pull mass back toward the hilt, ensuring the weapon remains agile and responsive.

The Kriegsmesser (literally translating from German as "War Knife") is one of the most distinctive and formidable weapons of the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Developed in Central Europe—primarily within Germanic lands—the Kriegsmesser was a two-handed, single-edged sword utilized extensively by professional soldiers, mercenary captains, and the famed Landsknecht double-pay soldiers (Doppelsöldner).

Despite its massive, sword-like proportions, the weapon belongs typologically and legally to the knife (Messer) family, a design choice deeply rooted in late-medieval guild law, social class, and battlefield pragmatism. The development of the Kriegsmesser is a classic historical example of navigating around protectionist trade guilds. In the Holy Roman Empire, the powerful Schwertfeger (Sword-cutlers) guild held a strict legal monopoly on the manufacturing of swords.

To bypass these restrictions, knife-makers (Messerschmiede) began producing large, two-handed weapons. By utilizing traditional knife-construction techniques rather than sword-construction techniques, they legally classified these massive infantry weapons as "knives."

Part of our Fallen Warrior sale lot, This Jousting helmet was used in for an A&E documentary. There are some scratches and minor dents (see pictures in image gallery). All straps are intact. 

Jousting emerged during the 12th C. from the military use of the lance by the mounted knight. During the latter part of the Middle Ages, jousting gained popularity in numerous kingdoms and was transformed into a lucrative event. Knights and nobles gained considerable wealth, prestige and land during such bouts, while merchants and artisans benefited from the ‘games’ by the distension of neighboring populations. While Jousting spread widely across the Christian kingdom, Pope Innocent II, in 1130, at a church council at Clermont, denounced all forms of ‘Noble’ tournaments and forbade Christian burials for Nobles killed in them. According to ecclesiastical ideas of morality, the ‘games’ distracted the aristocracy from focusing on more acceptable warfare, in defense of Christianity.

Head of Aphrodite, Cast from the original by the Louvre Museum workshop. The bust was acquired by Darksword Armory founder, Eyal Azerad, during the mid 1980’s during his visit to the Louvre. The bust is signed by the Museum workshop at the base of the neck. 

Aphrodite, also known as Venus in Roman mythology, is the ancient Greek goddess of love, beauty, desire, and fertility. She is one of the twelve Olympian gods and goddesses who resided on Mount Olympus. According to Greek mythology, Aphrodite was born from the foam of the sea near the island of Cyprus after the castration of the titan Uranus by his son Cronus.

Aphrodite is often depicted as a beautiful and seductive goddess, associated with love and desire. She had a significant influence over the realms of romance, passion, and procreation. Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, the blacksmith of the gods, but she had numerous affairs and romantic entanglements with both gods and mortals, including Ares, the god of war.

Her symbols include the dove, the rose, the scallop shell, and the mirror. Aphrodite had a notable role in various myths and legends, such as the story of her love affair with the Trojan prince Paris, which was a catalyst for the Trojan War. She was also closely associated with the city of Athens, where she had a temple called the Aphrodite Pandemos, which represented her role in public and civic life.

The new project from Darksword Armory Owner Eyal Azerad - the Raven Chef Knife is a high end, Japanese inspired professional chef knife at an affordable price, Canadian-made with EN 1.4116 German Krupp steel. This traditional Japanese chef knife has been redesigned with more chopping and cutting clearance, with a newly designed bolster angle. This makes the Raven Knife much easier to handle, control and slice - with an ultra sharp-edge.

The Raven Knife comes with our signature Series magnetic knife block.  
The magnetic knife block is made with 1" thick super magnets set in Canadian maple stained wood. The double-sided magnetic block can hold up to 8 large knives (4 on each side). The block weights 14 lbs. The super magnets will hold any knife very tightly to avoid any knife drops.
