For the Vikings, Runes had important metaphysical and magical virtues. Runes were regarded with great importance. They served to convey ones destiny, as protection and to communicate with the spiritual world. They were regarded as magical and having powers to protect, elevate, and foretell future events. They were also a connection from the natural to the supernatural world. As such, Runes were craved everywhere in Norse culture. On sword blades, jewelry, grave sites, ships and even invaded monasteries. They were used as symbols of protection.

The Mammen axe is crafted after the original, recovered from a burial at Mammen, in Jutland, Denmark. Dated approximately at 970 AD, the axe belonged to a man of noble status and was most probably a ceremonial weapon due to the rich decoration and inlaid silver.
Finely crafted from .925 Sterling silver, the Mammen axe is an authentic scaled reproduction of the original.
