Ivanhoe tells the story of the remaining Saxon noble families at a time when the nobility in England was mainly Norman. The novel is set in 1194, after the failure of the third Crusade, and recounts the story of Ivanhoe and his strained relationship with his father due to Ivanhoe’s allegiance to the Norman king Richard the Lionheart.
