14th Century Two Handed Sword1339: 14th C. Two Handed Sword
1300 – 1350 AD
Museum of London,
Original found in the River Thames in London.

The cross on the pommel seems to indicate that this 14th c. Sword is a Templar Knight’s weapon. The history of the Templars seems to indicate that the sword was thrown into the river when the Order of the Temple was dissolved by Edward II in 1314 . At the time, many Templars were executed or imprisoned, and in 1314 the Order's last grand master, Jacques de Molay, was burned at the stake. The embellishing of the pommel, with its decorative cross, was common among the Templars, giving clear indication as to the origins of the sword.

This fourteenth century sword is forged from 1060 High Carbon steel. The blade is satin polished and  tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 53, while the hilt is fitted with an Iron pommel and cross guard. The handle is made of wood, wrapped with black leather.

The Agincourt Sword1314 Sword of the Third Crusade

Original found in the Tower of London

The Third Crusade (1189–1192), also known as the Kings' Crusade, was an attempt by European leaders to reconquer the Holy Land from Saladin (Salāh al-Dīn). Spurred by religious zeal, both English and French monarchies (Henry II and Philip II) ended their bitter conflict and joined forces to lead this new Crusade. With reckless armies and incessant conflict over power, land and “title”, the Christian forces abandoned their struggle. Ultimately, on September 2, 1192, Richard and Saladin signed a treaty leaving Jerusalem under Muslim control, while allowing Christians access to Holy Land.

Boromir Sword1316 The Hundred Year War Sword
15th Century, sword of

The 15th century witnessed some of the most beautiful sword of the Medieval period. Complex architectural paradigms influenced smiths in both armor and sword design. Among the patterns of the early 15th century, a new trend emerged in handles designs, leading way to an increasingly popular ribbed layer handle construction. While some swords were fitted with small latitudinal flanges at the top and bottom, others were crowned with circular rims. One such example is the sword of Johannes von Eglofstein, dating from 1411, from which our model was reproduced.
