The Mercenary
German Sword- Early sixteenth Century
Original found in the Austrian Museum
Commonly used by the Northern countries between
the late 15th and early 16th Century, this short
sword was widely cherished among men-at-arms
and mercenaries. The crisp two-inch wide deep fullered
blade, compounded by its impressive weight, rendered
this piece an exceptional tool capable of shredding
through opponent’s pole-arms. Beautifully
crafted guards were common among such swords,
reflecting individual styles and taste.

Dark Age Sword
Tower of London Collection,
England
The Dark Ages, specifically, refers to a time (476–800) when there was an absence of a Roman emperor in the West; or, more generally, to the period between about 500 and 1000, which was marked by frequent warfare and a virtual disappearance of urban life. The Dark Ages, also known as the Early Medieval Period, began by the deposition of the last western Roman Emperor by a Germanic leader in 476 A.D. The period is marked by the "Germanization" of the Roman armies and a massive wave of attacks on the Roman Empire commonly referred to as the "German Invasions".

13th C. Medieval Sword
Tower of London Collection,
England
The
Thirteen century, also known as the period of the
High middle ages, witnessed considerable warfare and
strife. During the early part of the 13th
century, the western world witnessed the rise of the
Fourth crusade and the sacking of Constantinople
(1204 A.D.), the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
The invasion, often described as the most
disgraceful attack in medieval history, destroyed
the Christian (eastern Orthodox) rule, effectively
set Latin rule on the empire.
The
Thirteenth Century sword, found at the Tower of
London, displays the general artistic trends of
the period. During the early part of the
Thirteenth’s century few examples of similar
guards were believed to be in existence. By 1250
however, the trend prevailed and became common.
Whereas one example is on display in Norman, at
the Maidstone Museum, this
version was reproduced from an example found in the
Tower of London’s Wallace collection.

The Medieval Squire Sword
English Sword
13th Century (not historically based)
The English word squire comes from the Old French escuier (modern French écuyer), itself derived from the Late Latin scutarius ("shield bearer"). The Classical Latin equivalent was armiger, 'arms bearer'.
A squire was originally a young man who aspired to the rank of knighthood and who, as part of his development to that end, served an existing knight as his attendant or shield carrier (hence the name). However, during the middle ages the rank of esquire came to be recognized in its own right and, once knighthood ceased to be conferred by any but the monarch, it was no longer to be assumed that any a squire would in due course progress to be a knight. The connection between a squire and any particular knight also ceased to exist, as did any shield carrying duties.
The Medieval Squire Sword is
made of 1060 high Carbon steel and Tempered to a
Rockwell of 53. The handle is covered in blue
leather and wired wrapped. The sword comes with
a matching blue Scabbard.

The Black
Knight
14th C. Original found in the National
Museum, in Copenhagen.
"The Black Knight" Medieval Sword
is Inspired by E.A. Christensen's sketch work, found
on p. 121 of Oakeshott's "Record of the
Medieval Sword". Remaining true to its
historical form, the black knight sword is one of
the perfectly balanced swords of the medieval era.
The original, dated at 1475 (with some controversy),
has a double fuller blade. Our rendition of
the sword, is forged with a single fuller.
